“It was sheer panic here at ripmybodice.com headquarters when we had returned from our morning meeting at the ripmybodice.com boardroom to find mutant fire-ants covering our beloved shrine of Ms. McNaught. Over the howls and screams of “NoOoOOoo!!! Jooooo- deeeeettttthh!!!” and Mimi’s wails of “mmmmmaaaaaaiiii baaaaayyy - beeeeeeeeess!!!”, Lola and I bundled a weeping Mimi into the ripmybodice.com summer getaway car, threw in our bikinis, sunhats, suntan lotion and accessories (in that order) and whatever else we could lay our hands on, and put our Christian Louboutins to the pedal, and raced towards the beach. Thankfully, Lola had the good sense to grab books for us - “Real Vampires Have Curves” for herself, and “The Viscount Who Loved Me” for yours truly. Mimi…well, let’s just say we bought her a lot of strawberry margs to keep her calm from her loss.

Never having read a book by Julia Quinn before (but instinctively trusting whatever Lola tells me to read), I settled in on the deck chairs, happily feeling the cool breeze, smelling the salty air, and Lola, who had dumped half the bottle of suntan lotion on herself because she likes the way it makes her smell. Anyhoo, “The Viscount Who Loved Me” stars Anthony Bridgerton as the hero; the eldest brother to platoon Bridgerton, the rake of the season, who decides to take a wife. Sounds familiar? Like another historical romance plot where the aristocratic rake decides “I’m going to take a wife but there will be no love involved because I only want the mere convenience of a wife. And an heir. Yes. A man cannot have too many heirs to carry on his empire”? You would be half right. See, Anthony’s rationale for taking a wife is that, and bees. Yes bees.

“With more humor than romance, this book made me laugh a few times. Something about Kate really humored me. Plus, the fact that there were more political and health issues addressed was interesting. A romance that seemed to have a strong dip into politics and what beauty was. Always interesting. Recommended for young adults and not silly high school girls.”

A few of the things I love are that this book makes you laugh. I'm not one of those into romance books that are mostly sex scenes. I like to have some story and a little extra something. If the book makes me laugh then it's usually one that makes it onto my keep shelves (Julie Garwood's historical romances are other books that do it for me too). I love Kate, the heroine in this book, because she isn't the beautiful woman, she isn't graceful and she can't play any instrument beautifully. She's also been known to leave her dancing partner with aching feet so how can you not love it when she catches the interest of the wealthy and handsome viscount who could have almost any woman he wants?
After reading this one I quickly went and bought up the rest of the books that were out at the time and anxiously awaited each new book. I will admit I didn't find the newer ones as good but it could be because my favorite siblings were Anthony, Colin and Benedict so of course those were my favorite stories in the series. If you love a good romance story and want some humor tossed in this is definitely one to pick up.”
“I forget how much I love Anthony's book until I pick it up and read it. Anthony Bridgerton is the first son of the Viscount Bridgerton who will one day be Viscount himself. He meets a beautiful woman who is a perfect candidate to be his wife, the only problem is his intelligent, argumentative and difficult older sister Kate. The relationship between Anthony and Kate is irresistibly funny and charming. It is a wonderfully cute book that could be read by itself but really should be read with the whole series. A benefit of any of the Bridgerton books is that you get to revisit old characters while watching others grow up.”

“I have found a way to pass the time until Lover Avenged is available at the library!!! It’s the Bridgerton series by Julia Quinn. The first book in the series, The Duke and I, was an awesome book and I loved it. I just don’t know what took me so long to read the second in the series (maybe the Black Dagger Brotherhood). This book was such a fun book to read. I laughed out loud several times. The bantering between the two was priceless, it was natural and not forced. Not to mention that the tension between the two was off the charts!!! If you haven’t read this series, you may want to put in your tbr pile. Don't forget to read the Epilogue II!”

“Book 2 in Bridgerton series. I wasn't quite as taken with "The Viscount Who Loved Me" as I was with "The Duke and I" but still very much enjoyed. This is the story of Anthony Bridgerton, reformed rake and eldest of the Bridgertons. He makes the decision that it's time for him to marry but not for love because of his phoebic fear of dying as young as his father. He selects Edwina Sheffield for his betrothed but first he must get by her older sister, Kate. There is instant dislike and challenge between them but Kate is not one of the simmpering twits of the ton. I found their clashes entertaining. Newton, Kate's beloved corgi, plays a prominent role. The identity of the gossip columnist who writes Lady Whistledown's Society Paper is still unknown (she has a scathing wit and most accurate information of all that's going on in society). I'm hooked on this series and looking forward to reading the next book , "An Offer From a Gentleman"...Benedict Bridgerton's story (the next oldest available brother).”

“The viscount who loved me was entertaining but did not meet up to my expectations for a Julia Quinn book. I felt that it dragged a little in places but it was still nice to read about another love match. Anthony was funny in the Duke and I but when I got to learn his story he became somewhat dull to me. Don't get me wrong... I still liked the book just not at all close to one of my favorites in the Bridgerton series.”
