Read a review of this a long time ago that said it was an excuse for Alan Moore to have Quatermain and Murray having sex - I would have to say I agree - a poor excuse, some good artwork, but the story wasn't great.

Though I am loathe to admit it, this second volume in Moore's intertextual series is paler in comparison with its predecessor. Some tremendous panelling does not make up for the straightforward plot and the prose-heavy traveller's almanac outweighs its worth by a country mile, brevity would have improved this volume.

enjoyed it, but nothing great. some parts/scenes are shocking and genius. other parts are misplaced. even toher parts are just strange. the book over all seems unfinished. most of the story is, in a way, separate from the plot.

A little bit of soap operatics, but with Alan Moore's sly grin and a Victorian outlook (a rape happens, but its much more outrages that its a man raping a man rather than the fact that its an actual rape). Good Deity this book is brilliant. I love new Alan Moore much more than old grumpy Alan Moore (xcept for Watchmen). He writes his new stuff like a crazed sodomite emcee. Thumbs up my bearded brother. Thumbs up.

I haven't read comic books since I was in about fifth grade, but lately I have been checking out the "graphic novels" shelf of my local library. That's where I discovered this one.

This was nothing like the comic books of the mid-1970s. This book was downright dirty, with full nudity and everything. The story itself was a blend of "War of the Worlds" storyline populated by characters from classic tales -- Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, The Invisible Man, and a couple others I wasn't familiar with.

It was pretty cool. I read it in about two hours. It looks like originally it was five or six different graphic novels, so I'm glad I didn't have to wait a month or two for the next installment. I've already reserved another one from the library. Can't bring myself to go into the comic book store, however. I'm afraid I'd like it too much.

I liked the second volume of LXG, but not nearly as much as I enjoyed the first. Mostly I enjoyed the development between Mina, Allan, and Hyde. This volume is not for the squeamish... but are there many Alan Moore books that are? What really irks me about this volume is the same thing that I tend to enjoy about the series as a whole; I love the literary/pop culture references strewn about, and I want to sit with Wikipedia or one of the sites dedicated to deconstructing the comic series, so I'm getting it all. But the walls of text making up the "atlas" at the end of the book are just plain aggravating. It felt more like an attempt to cram in every possible allusion and then some, with Moore checking off a giant list of novels, short stories, and movies. It's really more worth your time to skim to the journal entries, particularly Mina's and Orlando's. Of course, I'm sure in the next two volumes these references will pop up and then I'll be sorry I recommended to skim. I will say that the description of the Wonderland expedition left me with goosebumps... eep!

This graphic novel was horrible. Going from fantasy to science fiction was very disappointing. The excessive sexual scenes was disgusting.

I love these comics and wish there were more of them! It is always interesting to see great literary characters take part in a larger story than their own. LXG manages to not only place them outside of their original stories into other, larger, stories. This volume follows the crew into a War of the Worlds setting among others. A great read, even if it is more serious than the other literary based comic, Fables.
