I am not a fan!!!
1006 pages, small print with little white space--a VERY LONG read.
Every character had a story--stories within stories.
Stupid and insensitive ending. Finished it on the plane and left it there. Not worth the read, but I refused to quit!
I am proud to say to...

A suspenseful murder mystery. Also it's intriguing because it touches upon the life of a musician and also shows how our memory plays tricks on us.

This story is a combination of past and current crimes, connected by the people involved in both. George is a first rate writer of British crime mysteries, and continues to prove it in this book. Although the first part of the book is a little difficult, once all the characters are connected, it’s a great mystery.

I'll agree that the book is long, but it is very interesting. While Elizabeth George is known for her English mysteries, this one is more of a psychological study combined with a mystery. It did take me a while to finish it, but I think it was worth the time. As others have noted, it centers around a violin prodigy who has become suddenly unable to play a note. He begins working with a therapist, who encourages him to review his past in hopes of discovering the reason for his sudden inability to play. As he begins to unearth memories from his earlier years the reader gets to know more about him, his family and the reasons for the several murders that have recently taken place. I enjoyed it and recommend it to mystery fans.

I am proud to say to this day, there is only one book I ever quit reading before getting to the end.

Good, but not one of my favorites.
