Mystery about Darwin and why he "waited" so long to reveal his theory of evolution; told from the viewpoint of modern scholar and one of Darwin's daughters, her own life a mystery! Good, not great, but the mystery does hook you!

The Darwin Conspiracy by John Darnton is an interesting account of Charles Darwin's discovery/grokking of the Theory of Evolution from three points of view.

Interesting twist at the end to cast doubt as to who sparked the idea within Darwin.

Note: Others prior to Darwin espoused the idea of Evolution. Darwin just figured out the mechanism of Natural Selection.

This was a good read, well-paced and lots of information and exposition without cluttering the text or boring the reader. The main characters were a little flat, but yet sympathetic and the author brought their investigation in such a suspenseful matter that it got me curious and I wanted to find out more. I loved the parts with the diary and how Darwin himself was portrayed - not flattering, not bashing, but as a human being with flaws and quirks, and I loved the implications of the discovery of his major flaw...I'm almost tempted to read a sequel about how the scientific world would respond to this revelation. My one and only negative comment is that this book could've done without the obligatory 'bigger and better brother who died in presence of younger brother' and the supposedly mystery about his death. This didn't add to the story at all and in my opinion, could've been left out. The parts wherein the main character interacted with other characters to investigate this, were bland at best, and felt like it was thrown in to give him some background and not to keep the entire book focused on Darwin and the diary. I think it wasn't necessary and was more of a distraction than a valuable add.

A fun read and quite exciting, but rather negative to Darwin.
