This should be required reading for anyone who says that America's founders intended this country to be a Christian nation. Clearly, our slave-owning forbearers possessed far greater intelligence, personal integrity and political courage than anyone in office today. One simply cannot imagine anyone in Congress today writing the kind of philosophy and political theory that Thomas Paine was able to over 200 years ago. How sad is that?
