  “My favorite Dickens novel, it is at once a history lesson and a timeless portrait of humanity. I read it every year or two and each time marvel at how much I missed in the previous readings. While Dickens draws his characters narrowly, often comically so, his use of such characters to lay open the human condition for examination is genius. If his characters seem familiar to you, it is because you have met them in your own life. You have BEEN them, no less!”
