“Great book. Small, quick poems that try and shock you awake. Too bad I gave the book away...”

Yes | No“This gem of a collection of short poems was created by Jim Harrison and Ted Kooser, as a means of dialogue after Kooser's diagnosis of cancer, a refinement of their long time letter writing. They reflect the themes so familiar with both poets of aging/dying, the natural world, the simple issues of daily life, with an occasional political barb or lusty observation thrown in. I found I could conjure up the men as I pictured them reading the new poem the other had sent, their laughter, appreciation and respect, the bond they have. It bears rereading often, provoking thoughful regard. The depth and simplicity of the first poem (you do not know who has written which) is staggering and gives you a sense of the collection.
How one old tire leans up against
another, the breath gone out of both.
Such a satisfying book; two old friends talking to one another, in beautiful poetry.”
