An interesting read. The plot is not so strong or intricate. But is simple and plain. The lady lead character is given a strong portrayal. Arguments between Colin and Alessandra are logical at times but annoying at few places.

Amongst the three “pirate” book series written by Julie Garwood (the first two being “Guardian Angel” and “The Gift“), “Castles” is sadly the least memorable. And for all you out there who are not yet accustomed to our snark, that means it’s kinda boring. No really we can barely remember it other than it involved a) a princess; b) castles; c) some sort of sinister plot; d) some sort of “funny” bet between two old foggies; and e) the first ever male platform shoe read about in a Romance novel by Sheridan Sakura Carlotta. Oh and when we say “funny”, we don’t mean “hahahah! You’re so funny ohmygod I can’t breathe”, but more like “Oh hi Pappy Carlotta? How are you? You want to tell me a funny story? Sure! uhm…you did a what in your pants? And then you did what to it?! Oh. Heh. Hmm. That’s funny Pappy Carlotta. Real funn- NURSE!!” Yep. That kind of funny.

The confrontations between the hero-heroine and the story baseline reminds the style of the tamil author 'Ramanichandran'.
On the whole a nice read.

I enjoyed it until the weird scene at the end that was both gruesome and gratuitious.

In the dead of the night, the sole surviving heiress to a great kingdom was escorted into England, into the care of the Duke of Williamshire, her guardian and a great friend of her beloved father. And with a greedy general intent on marrying her in hope of getting his hands on her vast fortune, Princess Alesandra knows that she must marry soon. For her guardian, what better way to repay his old friend than to offer his own son to the princess? The only trouble is - his son has a five-year-plan that doesn't include a wife.

Colin was surprised to find the unexpected visitor in his townhouse. But his head reeled upon hearing the purpose of Alesandra's stay. Having vowed never to marry regardless of his father's constant nagging, he knows that he must get Alesandra out of his life before he succumbs to the intense attraction he feels for her. But when her life was threatened, the protector in him wins over and he finally agrees to marry her.

From their first meeting, sparks fly between Colin and Alesandra. The undeniable attraction heats up the pages, and even their verbal spats show their intense attraction to each other. Alesandra is just wonderful - strong-willed, compassionate and very astute. You won't doubt her intelligence right from the start, and I loved how she was brought up very un-princess like. Colin is arrogantly sexy, but I loved how protective he is of those people he cared for. Sure, he started off stubborn, but we know that it wouldn't take long for him to come around.

CASTLES, with its blend of mystery, romance and laughs, is a great way to finish off the series. I am so glad that Colin has found his princess and glad that Alesandra has broken the wall that he has built around himself ever since that tragic accident. Although the murder plot seemed rather pointless at times, the romance more than makes up for it that I truly didn't care about anything else.

The other books in the series (in order) are: THE LION'S LADY, GUARDIAN ANGEL, and THE GIFT.

Book 4 in the Crown's Spies series:
Orphaned and besieged, Princess Alesandra knew that only a hasty marriage to an Englishman could protect her from the turmoil in her own land. To the amusement of her makeshift guardian, Colin, younger brother of the Marquess of Cainewood, the bold, ravenhaired beauty instantly captivated London society. But when Alesandra was nearly abducted by her unscrupulous countrymen, the fighting instincts that won Colin a knighthood for valor were rekindled.
Deceiving himself that he wanted only to protect her, Colin swept her into a union meant to be a marriage in name alone... yet Alesandra's tender first kiss and hesitant caress ignited a wildfire in his soul. As the lovely princess dashed headlong into unforeseen dangers, Colin would follow, knowing he must claim her as his own forever. Now he would risk his life itself before he would lose this sweet, tempestuous angel...

Okay, everyone be prepared this is one of the greatest love stories of all time! If men like Collin still existed I would have already died and gone to live with them in their castle in the kingdom of take my breath away. Yes, in the book Collin was stubborn when it came to defending his woman, he would do anything to protect her, and he loved her more than anyone has ever loved anyone. Behind the mask of strength and valor was a man who was so compassionate and caring and he just loved her. Its one of those perfect love stories, the ones that make you dream, a lot because men like this no longer exist. In fact I'm convinced that these men Nathan, Caine, who you meet in the Gift and Guardian Angel, and COllin of course were three perfect angels of men sent down to earth, and after that God just gave up because he could never ever make men that perfect ever again, so he was forced to resort to the barbaric and slightly immature men we co-exist with! HE HE [3PLEASEEEEEEEEE read this book it will change your life and you will never want to get married until your husband can stand up to COllin!
