Raised in affluence, Che's trip, through which he witnessed the suffering and deep poverty of the peasants, was instrumental in forming his socialist ideology.” see full review » see other reviews » |

“I read this while traveling in South America and I learned a lot about Che Guevara. The only thing I didn't like was the translation. ”

It was a great tale of adventure and had a barefoot, straw hat, motorcycle-riding feel of getting to know what South America is, but I do not feel like I know any better who Che was. He was young, adventurous, populist, ambitious, he burned for life like a character out of On the Road, but he didn't open himself up like I thought he might in writing a young man's travel memoirs. It was more of a cold journal; you could tell he had espoused the beginnings of the life he would live, but I feel like I could have learned just as much about him in this book as I could in a book about him which someone else had written. Not disappointed, but I wasn't blown away.”
