“This is my first encounter with the Armchair Theologians series, and I'm impressed. I'm not an expert on religion but this book doesn't treat me like I'm completely ignorant either. Despite the subject matter, it is not heavy reading: the author writes in a light, sometimes humorous tone. He provides just the right amount of information about Wesley, his formative experiences, and the religious conflicts and crises of faith he suffered. The book also does an admirable job of identifying some of the contradictions and strengths of Methodism. It has been invaluable in helping me understand my own faith.”
