“This is the first tea shop novel I've read and I like it a lot! There is a fair amount of description in this tiny book [I think it's only like 270 page with like 12 pt font!] so if that's not your thing then move on BUT if you like that or like it enough to see what happens next [i'm in the latter] this is a great mystery whodunit kind of book. I was right about the killer, but it wasn't obvious at all. Lots of tea, gardens, gunfire, waterfalls, burning houses, murder and attempted murder!”

I thought I had pegged the killer, but I was wrong! I tried one of the recipes, it was pretty good.”

A good story, delightfully told (as always), great characters and the obligatory twist at the end - delightful !!”
“I was not pleased with the choice of victim. I like them to be a little less well known to the readers.”

Once again, when Theodosia Browning does a good deed, a murder occurs. At a local plantation, Theo provides the tea at a flower show. There is a rare plant auction, and when Tea Master Drayton realizes he is bidding against Mark Congdon, he bows out. Mark outbids the competition, and obtains a very rare orchid. Mark and his wife Angie run a quaint B&B with a greenhouse that has some very nice orchids already. Mark has recently gone back to working at a brokerage firm, and is on track for a promotion.
After taking a drink of tea, Mark dies. Though it could be heart failure, it turns out to be poison, and thus murder. Theo does what any true friend would do, and steps in to help Angie. She goes to Mark's office to gather up his belongings. His competitor for the promotion has taken care of that, and Theo is a bit taken aback by Leah Shalimar's somewhat abrasive personality.
Drayton is told by Angie she wants him to have Mark's orchids, which causes Drayton to have a bit of a hissy fit. When the B&B is burned down and the orchids destroyed, Theo was there to see Mark's former secretary leaving the scene. Theo begins to wonder if there was something other than business between them, and hopes not. Haley continues to make wonderful treats for the tea shop, and Theo has hired an intern to work with Drayton. Drayton is not at all pleased with this.
Drayton decides to go on an orchid seeking canoe trip to see if he can replace the rare orchid that was lost in the fire. Theo goes with him, and they are doing well until shots ring out. Danger lurks in every turn, and so they take to whitewater. They are almost undone by
a waterfall. Drayton especially as he can't swim. Luckily, Theo is up to the task of rescuing both their lives and the canoe. It is a wonder they find their way back, and indeed also find the rare orchid.
Theo is abducted by the killer, but her patience in listening to Drayton's lectures about the history and life of South Carolina plantations helped her escape and bring a murderer to justice.
I enjoyed this book, and liked the recipes provided. I did find myself tiring of Drayton's complaints, and found him almost too much of a fuss-budget. The rest of the cast are still engaging, and I'll hope Drayton was just having a bad week.

“This 8th installment in the Tea Shop Mysteryies featuring Indigo Tea Shop's proprietor, Theodosia Browning is much like the ones before. If you've enjoyed the previous seven books in the series you will likely enjoy this one as well. ”
