Interesting from a historical and philosophical standpoint, at least.”

It's like a tour of provincial Russia, full of hilarious incidents but you also cannot miss the more serious themes like social criticism. Though central character Chichikov is corrupt, i liked him all the same. ”

to be taken for reading of the Russian master. The story does'nt sound
as morbid as the title does, actually it is a wonderful parody of the
Russian life and the society of the time. It is such a pity that Gogol
had such a short life and only one book. The ending is not Gogol,
ostensibly because he is said to have burned some of his manuscripts,
so the ending is not the same class as the rest. A wonderful book. ”
“Perhaps the closest a Russian has ever gotten to being humorous.”

the book is a good insight into the mind of this crooked hero and is an invaluable read for its theatre like quality and a sense of all around of drama.”
