No big improvement over the first book in the series. Kind of slow for me, but the story held my attention.

As protector of the Siyee, Auraya is sent to investigate a stranger sighted on their lands. She develops a rapport with the mysterious woman, who claims to be a close friend of Mirar, the founder of the Dreamweavers – but the secret she divulges sets Auraya on a dangerous path of conflict with the gods.
Meanwhile, the Pentadrians, regaining strength under a new leader, plot and scheme for any means to bring down their enemies – not anticipating that the White will send the Siyee against them. It seems that the consequences for all sides will be disastrous.

Mirar now has a respected place amongst his people, so the stakes are very high when his fragile friendship with Auraya may prove to be the very cause of her destruction...!!

I think i liked this one better than the first one of the series i guess that's thanks to Emerhal - another interesting character introduced in this book (in addition to the Leiard/Mirar-mystery man). And the flying people are dying because of a disease (oh, i am so evil, but i really disliked that storyline in the first book).
The part with the water people (sorry, can't remember how they were called) was annoying (because the stupid spoiled princess-brat was annoying), but it didn't bother me as much as the storyline of the flying guys in book one (I seem to have a problem with Canavan's magical creatures).
there was also a storyline with those Pentadtrians, but to be honest, i can't remember what was it about (read the book only some four or five months ago).

So yes, plus for Emerhal and Leiard - loved them and their backgrounds and stories.

I thought this was better then the first one. I admit it took me longer to get into but I realised that was because of my lack of enthusiasm for the first novel. I think one of the things that made a difference was the fact it was also told from the 'foes' perspective. It made it more interesting. Also compared to the first novel there was more intrigue and you realised nothing was really quite as it seemed. Although it was still fairly predictable in parts but I felt that was easily overlooked thanks to this being a more enjoyable read.

This is a good follow up to the first book. Although really a link between the first and third books (I presume) the unravelling story keeps you interested. I am looking forward to the third installment
