weird book. The Grass Harp wasn't that bad, but the short stories were just creepy.

This is one of Capote's best. A strange mix of characters that gives a variety of people something or someone to relate to.

A charming story of colorful characters. I thought about going to live in a tree myself after reading it. Capote is a gem.

Before the urban sophisticate of "Breakfast at Tiffany's," the cold, spare, reptilian-eyed journalist of "In Cold Blood" or the dissipated lizard of "Answered Prayers," there was the precocious lad from the gothic South who wrote in bittersweet, mellifluous tones about his eccentric boyhood. "The Grass Harp" is the most superb example of this period of Capote's career, a really sweet story. However, some may, like Gore Vidal, find these stories give them "diabetes."
