I really enjoyed listening to people on the radio reading the essays of their personal credo. Reading what others valued most and held closest to them we equally as enjoyable. I am surprised to have read many reviews that were critical of this concept. It is a very difficult a topic to write on so concisely. I appreciate the efforts and diverseness of this project.

This book had many different peoples philosophical beliefs, all woven into one story. Each person has a different story to tell. It was interesting to see how the values of an individual change, and to see how people believe in such different thing. I really enjoyed parts of this book, because it made the simplest things in life are proved to see the most important. It was able to shine light on things that seem the darkest, make the best out of everything, and live life one day at a time.

So far, Parenting is the Most Important Job and Leave Identity Crisis to Other Folks, are my faves...however, I'm not that far into it.

I'm only halfway through, but it's amazing to read. The essays are interesting, and always insightful.

This I Believe is a collection of very short essays that state the major belief of the writers.  Those writers range from the everyday person to the most famous.  The subjects encompass the very serious such as death to the light hearted such as being nice to the pizza boy and the joys of eating barbeque.  The book contains essays that make you think about your personal stand on specific issues as well as pure humor and entertainment.  This could be a resource for devotionals as well as examples of how to write an essay. There is something in this book for everyone.

For a collection of short personal stories, I think this book is the best. The collection I compiled (www.socialcausediet.com) is pretty good too, by the way.

I find it hard to review this book. Almost 80 people, famous and not, wrote what they most believe in. The editors allowed them between 350 and 500 words and so every word counts.

I am amazed by several things. One, how well these essays are written. Even those that I don't agree with are persuasive.

Two, that folks would lay their beliefs on the line, in public. These were all recorded for the radio. I don't know if I could have done that. Do I want the world to know that I believe in being nice to the pizza man, or whatever?

Lastly, it is good to know that it is the small things that make up people's dearest beliefs. That is how I have always felt - the the small items in life are most important. It is good to have that belief confirmed.

As an NPR "junkie," I loved this book. The writings from the 50's are as poignant today as they were back then, I'm sure. I plan to use this book for writing prompts and seminars in my classroom.
