I first read this book online when it was posted by the author (before it got published in book form) on a military web site dedicated to those had fallen in this battle in Somalia. BHD was one of the most intense books I've ever read, it made me feel like I was right there. The biggest lesson I...

Great narrative of the ill-fated U.S. intervention in Somalia. Painstakingly accurate reconstruction of the military's actions over the course of that day. My only qualm is that the book focused too narrowly on the U.S. military intervention, with almost no exploration of the Somali context or the Somali repercussions. An interesting glimpse into modern U.S. warfare, but yielded little insight into the complexity of an African crisis.

A+ account of the battle of Mogadishu by Mark Bowden, one of the best battle narratives ever written.

D-Force is moved into action and is forced to get the Black Hawk. I finished the book it was really good. My dad and I watch the movie and it followed the book 90% of the way.

This is one of my favorite books, on war and in general. Mark Bowden is masterful in combining many different perspectives and impressions, connecting them all together to create a full picture of the events, and still be thrillingly informative. I have read this book more times than I can remember and I encourage all to read it and catch a glimpse of the type of soldiers fighting for the United States and their mentality.
