Melinda being the main character she believed in how people should know what Andy Evans did at the party but everyone is so inlove with him she is afraid that people won’t believe her. When she tried telling Rachelle, Rechelle refused to believe her. No matter what she tried Rachelle just accused her of being jealous and would not listen to her no matter what she said. Melinda was willing to fight for the truth to come out and every one to know what Andy Evans did. When Heather left Melinda all alone with no one to lean on or be there when she needed help she still held on and fought for the truth to come out. She never once gave up even though she though about it many times. She went through MISS (Meriweather In School Suspension) and yelled at a lot and still fought. At the ending of the book Melinda finally got every one to believe her and she opened up like everything she fought for was worth it. Even though the art teacher knew something was wrong she never felt like opening up till the ending because she was afraid people would think she was a liar and foolish.

I enjoyed this entire book but there were certain parts that I loved. I absolutely loved the part where Melinda starts to like David because it is really cute how she explains it. I love how they like each other but Melinda doesn’t think he like her but he knows she likes him. Melinda was explaining how she was confused about liking David and I thought it was a really good part in the book I also liked how the characters were all different in their own way. How they had their own attitudes about things and how they reacted to certain things differently. When David reacted to Melinda being careless instead of being mean he helped her understand how to speak up and be herself. That was why I liked David’s character. The plot of the book also interested me because it made me realize that no matter how quiet you are there’s always a reason for the way you act and if you judge someone before you meet them there’s always going to be a consequense. Heather made me think how mean people can be because if someone can’t stand by your side through thick and thin he/she isnt worth a friend ship. When she wanted Melinda to help her im glad Melinda didn’t because Heather would have just used her.

“In the novel, Speak, the characters seemed extremely believable. Melinda was a normal teenager dealing with many problems some teens faced, mostly drama. When most teenagers face drama they get irritated or sad, sometimes even depressed. The art teacher was believable because he was outgoing and understood people inside and out. He didn’t judge like other teachers did. When Melinda was making her tree every time she made one he could tell how she was feeling when she made it. David was believable because he taught Melinda how to speak up and say what she was feeling and to show people the she wasn’t who they all saw her as. Even though she wasn’t the best he saw her as the best. Where Melinda has the most embarrassing moment in lunch I can relate to that. When I was in lunch I went and sat down and this one girl pushed my lunch in to my lap and all of it was all over me. It was really embarrassing and I was scared to eat there again. When Rachelle didn’t want to believe Melinda I can also relate to that. When my best friend told me a secret I didn’t want to believe it. I was so shocked and I just didn’t listen. I thought she was lying so I got mad and ignored her. Then I found out the truth and I felt awful. When I first met Melinda she reminded me of me when I was younger because I was really shy and never really talked to anybody so I never really had any friends. At the end were Melinda starts opening up she reminds me of myself now because I am open and I talk to people about things like she as talking to the art teacher.

Took me about a day to read this. Very triggering to me as a survivor, but I'm glad I read it. The ending was incredible and very inspirational to me.

AMAZING NOVEL! One of my all time favorites. I also watched the movie as well with the main character as Kristin Stewart. This novel is superbly written and the movie goes perfectly together, like a puzzle. This endearing story about a girl named Melinda Sordino who is raped at a party is really shocking. She decides to not tell anyone and keep it to herself because she is known as the shy girl who is not really in the "in" crowd. This is an excellent book for young adults, such as ourselves. It's empowering, especially for girls. As a result of what happened, she is bullied and shunned by the other kids and has no friends. As the year progresses, Melinda sinks further and further into depression. Her grades begin first to slip. Worst of all, she seems to be losing her ability to speak, becoming more and more silent as time passes. Hence the name of the book, Speak, where Melinda begins to slowly lose her ability to speak time by time.
