This is an amazingly real and well-written book. I read it to a Life Skills class of 7th graders and they were spell-bound. Powerful characters, dialogue, and story line give the reader/listener much to think about and discuss.

I absolutely loved this book. It made me shake my head at how mean,self-fish, and rude people could be.

This book shows the things that some kids have to go through. It was a great read and it told the story of a young girl with a hard life.

many people can relate to this book and thats a reason why this book was great. Many people get dicrminated against and this book demonsrates it. this book made me feel furious becasue i dont like how other people treat others and people should be judged by thier personality not their color of their skin. people should feel comfortable inthier own skin and not be made fun of.

This book was very interesting and dramatic. I read it and learned more about other peoples personalities and how they go with it. I would recommend this book to young readers.

Such a revolutionary book! Lots of young adults can learn what that being yourself is the key to success. This book is about who you are, and you're suppose to love it. It's about being yourself.

15 BOOKS DURING SUMMER OF PREGNANCY - I read this book in just two hours it was that quick. It is about a girl in middle school who fails time and time again to assert herself. The back of the book gives her extra-dark black skin and the teasing it receives as the reason for her lack of self-esteem, but I think that’s not the only reason… she’s a poor girl living in a cutthroat community where bullies rule the school and taking a walk to the local market could get you beat up. I liked that the problems were very difficult for the character to solve; this made the book inspirational because it didn’t try to hide behind easy answers that often mislead young adults. I think young adults will also love the authentic voice they read here; the dialogue is the kind I hear in my school halls everyday.
