Rizal was definitely a genius! El Fili is the sequel to the Noli and is sort of anti-climactic since Simon doesn't get his revenge against the society he hated so much. The novel may have been a very dark one, but it still shines with the fact that the author still points to education as the key to the Filipino people's achieving greatness.
Rizal's novel could benefit from some very careful editing to make it more concise. His is a notoriously heavy style to read. But still, it is an...
