Very good unbiased review of how Walmart affects the economy and individuals who both buy from them and sell to them. I think anyone that has a strong opinion either against or for Walmart should read this book. I walked away understanding some of the reasons that people hate Walmart so I can at least have an intelligent conversation with them about it even if I don't necessarily agree with them.

Interesting information about how Walmart impacts so many other businesses and the market in general. Can get a little tedious at times.

Wal-Mart has often been given a very bad wrap. I keep on hearing in the media and from people who watch the media, how this company has destroyed the economy of small towns and put strip malls out of business. I found that this book gives great background to both sides of the story. There are some great anecdotes and the insight given to Wal-Mart economics is something that I will remember long after I finish reading this book. I still shop at Wal-MArt, but I am far more savvy about what I do purchase from their stores. Good Read (at least the first half).

An interesting book, but not sure there was a point to it. I enjoyed reading how the largest retailer pushed for lower prices, and it was interesting. I'd recommend it.

I thought this was a very balanced book about Wal-Mart - it didn't paint the chain as completely evil, nor did it justify its questionable business practices. Very interesting and well-written. The impact that this company has had on a global scale is a bit hard to wrap one's head around, but this book helps.

An excellent book, filled with interesting stories of retailers working with Wal-Mart, and many other fascinating tidbits. Fishman did extensive research, despite Wal-Mart's intent on keeping the workings of their business secret. You'd be hard-pressed to find a more in-depth analysis of Wal-Mart and the many effects it has on the national and global economies.

This book took me MONTHS to read as it is not my usual spell-binding murder mystery. It does however give one pause to consider whether one should ever shop at a Wal-Mart at all. Its relentless pursuit of the lowest prices have put many Wal-Mart suppliers out of business ( thus the workers in that business). It does not give insurance coverage to its workers believing that the workers can get government insurance so why should it have to help out its workers....and on and on like how it treats its workers in China for example. Wal-Mart is one of the world's largest companies but it became that way at what cost?...an interesting read about a very secretive company.

I liked that the author tried to give the facts as opposed to play on the reader's emotions. It is scary to learn that Wal-Mart does not share any of its data with the US government and as such, inflation, etc. does not take into accoutn the Wal-Mart impact. Frightening. Also, it was interesting to learn that those who do not like Wal-Mart spend something like 25% more money there than the people who like or love Wal-Mart. What does that tell you about society?!!!!!!
