“A good continuation of the first book. Part of me wishes that he wouldn't have let 5 years go by before picking up the story again, but nonetheless, he keeps the story moving. I'm still impressed with the different human and alien factions, and I love how intricately they all interact.
The scope of the story has gotten bigger, but it's got plenty of action to keep you interested.
I'm addicted, and just ordered the next 2 books online. Can't wait for them to get in.”
“Nice little page-turner. About 1/3 the intrigue of the "Game of Thrones" books but that's not really terrible and Mr. Anderson actually finished his series.”

I read the first book, "Hidden Empire", earlier this month. This follow-up is basically more of the same: completely over-the-top space opera, a little trashy but lots of fun. I recommend it to those readers who are willing to overlook some of the soapiness and just enjoy the ride. Green-skinned priests, telepathic trees, devices that can make gas giants turn into stars, homicidal robots, more alien races than you can shake a stick at. Trashy but fun. ”

The characters and groups of people and planets are well-developed. The only drawback, to me, is that there are so many characters and story-lines going that sometimes it's hard to keep up with. An entertaining read, though.”
