This is an autobiography of a black female activist in the 1960's who fought for black rights. This story goes back and fourth betweenn each chapter from her younger years and her present status. The story starts off with what she remembers about being in jail for two crimes that she did not commit. She wrote about how the white "pigs" sent her to jail for being an activist but pinned her to two crimes. She discussed her discomfort and mistreatment in jail even during her pregnancy. She eventually escaped jail with the help of her fellow Black Panthers. To this day she holds a milllion dollar bounty as she resides in Cuba. It was shocking to hear her talk about her younger years in school in which she wasn't taught black history and the U.S. was set to look at as perfect. In school now, we learn of the truths about all of U.S. history and this book gives me insight into the advantages I have today and how times have changed.

Assata fought for a cause, her self! i truly enjoyed this book. I was not pleased on the end. I really wanted to know how she escaped, but then I am sure everyone else did as well.

This book made me understand one's worth.. how strong you can be and how weak you allow your self to be. this book is a must read for every womyn out there who think they have it hard and can't move forward..! because if this womyn did it and is still doing it after everything she went through.. there is no limit to what you can do.. !

Assata gets props for giving a critical analysis of her life. She even admits that the most important thing about starting a revolution is that you have to have a way to educate and provide people with jobs.

A classic in revolutionary literature. Assata's beautiful personality and admirable defiance make for what I think should have been at least made into a movie. And there's poetry.

Assata's autobiography has had such an impact on me, the best way for me to review it is to share a poem I wrote: How I Met Assata Drowning in a reservoir of acute unconsciousness I searched for a lifeline, a paradigm of freedom And saw her face on a book in a window. I made it a crusade to get the funds Necessary to purchase the book And after reading the first page Something inside me said fuck being forlorn: FIGHT! And honor she who struggles.
