Didn’t Like It“Read it for the college book club and it was altogether not a popular book. The language is forced and dated, the characters and plot cliché and the descriptions bland. Might have been good when it was written (1960s) but nowadays there is just too much good fantasy around for this to work.” see full review » see other reviews » |

It is a brilliant combination of fantasy and magical realism. Something i really loved about this is that it is set in a real area, Alderly Edge. I have been several times and wandered around the woods and caves that the book was based around, it's a beautiful place.”

“Very strange book, with fimblewinters and crazy little goblin-like little buggers. Dwarves are also quite different & I felt the story was confusing & didnt engage the reader, especially the characters, they did not have a strong identity like that of Alexander or Tolkien's works.”
