An excellent primer on the development of a heartfelt practice of meditation and the challenges that a person will encounter as she continues to further deepen her practice. This will be a book I will refer to often as I continue on my personal spiritual journey.

Full of everyday wisdom about accepting things as they are as the strating place for almost everything.

I love this book. It has helped me to deal with a life that I sometimes find incomprehensible!

I first began Buddhist practice at the age of 12, but have always had conflicts with the many teachers who insist on isolation, sexual abstinence, and what seems to be a general detachment from the way we live in the West -- not that I fully approve of our western way of living, just that this is where I am. Jack Kornfield demonstrates that it is possible to be a good Buddhist in the Western world. His writing is clear, not occult; easy rather than pretentious; a genuine pleasure that leaves me up-lifted without feeling either patronised or like I have just eaten a saccharine-rich pap. And he has a great sense of humour! The audio book, read by the author, is a treat.

I liked the book, but I think Kornfield gets a little to hung up trying to incorporate Freudian style psychology with Buddhism.
