Didn’t Like It“I really like this book, and have reread it several times since I was about 10 or so. It is pretty naive to say, but at the time the critical view of science that he presents was new to me. |
“A friend took a course from Prof. Gould and I got to sit in once. He was as fascinating I ever hoped for and this is the first book of his essays that I ever read. I later bcame an avid reader of his column in Natural History and I still have his editorial from the Boston Globe in the 86 World Series about coincidence in sports and perhaps, why there is no god, or at least, why he might be a Mets fan. (Gould was a native New Yorker and Yankees fan. He called the Mets the guys in short pants when I saw him lecture.)

Anybody that can make science interesting for me, gets my vote. Still, some of the essays are better than others, so I'd probably give him closer to a 3 1/2 if it were possible. ”

This book is a compilation of some of his favorite essays from Natural History. He wrote a column each month, so even at the time this book was published, some of the essays were not very new. Today, a lot of the information in the book is very dated.
It is still interesting enough to read, and I will always have a fondness in my heart for the evolutionary roots of our friend Mickey Mouse. ”
