Carrie Montgomery and her group of friends are setting people (and apparently themselves) up to find husbands for each other mail order brides as it were. In the town of Warbrooke, MA., one letter arrived from a man with two children, a farmer who desperately needs a woman who knows how to farm. Helen was trying to be sneeky but Carrie caught her unbeknownced hiding a picture, and managed to retrieve the picture from her picture and instantly falls in love with the little family.
Helen tries to be firm and say that she has decided that this family is hers but Carrie does not allow that and says this couldnt be because this man is hers and she is going to marry him, well, marry him she does.
Carrie accomplishes said feat but does so with complete dishonesty and all of it. backfires when she reaches the town of Eternity.
Well Josh doesnt take to her scheming ways and he is stuck with her untill he can get her on the next stage out of there which will be at very least a week and probably more with the undependable stage line. But soon they do fall for each other but Josh is still determined to send her back but he reason had changed somewhat as he thinks she deserves better than this life. well she gets stuck in the town with no money for anything else. and starts her own dress shop. He and the children find her there after deliberating and Josh writes a lifelong letter telling about all the stuff they had been through and declaring his undying love for Carrie. Well while they are discussing her return in argumentation, two letters come one for him and one for her, after opening hers she faints and then tells Josh that her all too perfect eldest brother is coming to town..and goes into all that family controlling that they had practiced on her as well as brother 'Rings "high moral character", and then Josh faints when he opens his letter and when Carrie reads it she is ready to kill him or better yet call off their whole reunion. And then he says that it wouldnt be suitable to allow this marraige to go un reconciled and reunited for the sake of their unborn child. She relents slightly shocked at his knowledge. and then asks how they are to handle this.
Apparently Josh has a wife and the lawyer that was suppose to divorce them overlooked a paper and he must sign it. Well Mrs. Nora has discovered some leverage and she uses it. Where Carrie is ready and willing to part with even the exorbitant amount of money Nora asks Josh is not willing to even go diving down her blouse as she suggestively suggests. Carrie finds that he has a plan but will not share it with her, but she soon gets the gist and they await Nora's response and soon the old bat gives in as she detests even her own flesh and blood. They go back to the farm and reunite her with the children.
