The first Karen Rose book I read was frightfully chilling. I got yanked into the mystery and refused to put the book down until I was finished. The next two held my attention the same way, sadly this one did not.

I don't know if my feelings towards this book were because this is an earlier Rose and it felt like it was a bit more centered on the romance then the suspense. I found her later books ("Die for Me" or "Scream for Me") focused more on the murders with romance slightly woven in, there but not entirely the focus. Or perhaps it was that this book sorta felt like it reached its peak with still about 200 (in paper back) pages left to go. Maybe it was a mixture of these two things.

The plot wasn't as gripping as I've come to expect from Rose. The relationship between Ethan and Dana seemed to ignite rapidly and I wasn't such a fan of how easily Ethan divulged his whole life story over a beer. In fact, some of it seemed cliche in that romance novel way. The tension over the murders didn't have enough suspense and the twist around the 300 page point was a bit of a let down. Far too soap opera for my tastes.

While I wasn't a huge fan of this book if you are looking for more romance with a splash of suspense you'll enjoy this. I'll still be working through all of Rose's work because I love her later stuff, so if you're interested in trying some of her work I recommend her new works.
