Daelyn’s been the victim of bullying throughout her life and now she’s simply counting down the days until she can commit her final act on Earth. It’s destiny that she finds a Web site to help her in her quest. She has the motive, the means, and the determination. Then she meets this boy, Santana, who makes her examine her choice of death over life. But is he too late to save her? And is she too damaged to save him?

  • Daelyn Rice: Main character. She has attempted suicide many times before and intends to do it again with much more permanent results. Daelyn is mute because one of her suicide attempts has detroyed her vocal cords. Daelyn is bullied and is sick of life, so her plan is to leave this cruel world. She has found a way to complete her life and would have followed thought it but she found something to help her overcome bullies.
  • Santana Lloyd Girard the Second: A boy who tries to befriend and romance Daelyn. He's a bit nerdy and dorky but also charming and funny. Santana is mysterious and is the only person who is able to get under Daelyn's skin. He is fighting something he can't run from and Daelyn might be the right person to help him forget his biggest fear.
  • Kim Rice: Daelyn's mother. She doesn't understand her daughter and is constantly in fear for her daughter's life. She trys to help and tlak ot her daughter, but Daelyn is done letting people in.
  • Chip Rice: Daelyn's father. He is more lenient with his daughter than his wife is but is none the less terrified of what Daelyn might do to herself.
  • Hervé Villechaize Junior: Santana's pet rat. Daelyn is terrified of him but slowly gets a little more accustomed to his presence. Herve is, as Santana says , the one with the true crush on Daelyn.
  • JenniferJessica/ Taylor: A popular pretty girl who is bullying Daelyn and Emily. She is in the chorus class with them. JenniferJessica is the name Daelyn called her in her head before she knew what her name was. Taylor is her real given name. Taylor makes Daelyns life a sick place, and she is part of the reason Daelyn wants to die.
  • Ariel Girard: Santana's cool hippieish mother. She is a down-to-earth woman who is also a health and neat freak and an artist. She loves Santana more than anything in the world. Ariel also is afraid for Santana's life. Something is hurting him and he can't run from it, so he pretends that it is not there sometimes.
  • Maggie Louise: Fictitious character from Daelyn's favorite book series. Daelyn wishes she could be more like this character she is spontaneous , carefree, and beautiful.
  • Emily: A girl who tries to befriend Daelyn. She is also bullied for being overweight but is brave and comfortable with herself. She is in a chorus and economy class with Daelyn. Emily doesn't let Daelyn's cruel looks and words hurt her, she keeps trying to help both of them out of this bulling high school.
  • Mr. Hyatt: The chorus teacher. He is sympathetic towards Daelyn and even though she cannot sing he still allows her to attend his class. He tries to cut down on Taylor's bullying.
