Eco is a brilliant theoretician, and the average Eco reader usually skips on books like this one, which is too bad. This is a collection of transcripts of his Harvard lectures from 1992/93. Eco is a semiotics professor at Bologna university. Gosh, I'd kill for a semester in his course!

A must-read work on writing. Eco's book enlarges upon topics and thems of Calvino's book. If possible read Calvino first; then this one.
