The End of the Affair: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) (Penguin Classics Deluxe Editio)

by Graham Greene

Set in London during and just after World War II, Graham Greene's The End of the Affair is a pathos-laden examination of a three-way collision between love of self, love of another, and love of God. This book is multi-layered. It's beautiful and I thought about it long after reading. It has a magnificent take on theology, love, and the way the two entangle. Of the three I've read, it was Green's best.

i too am a graham greene fan and have read most of if not all of his novels and short stories, i find this to be his least satisfying. it is well written in typical greene style, but the story is so about people i cannot bring myself to car eabout.

I am a fan of Graham Greene to start with, and this is one of his masterpieces. To say it involves an extra-marital affair is almost beside the point. This is a book about desire, questions of morals, and how different people work out their choices. And the writing is amazing.
