Roaring Lambs

by Robert Briner

In his book and the accompanying discussion guide, Bob Briner issues a clear call for Christians to reclaim culture by joining it rather than running from or boycotting it. (read review)

Although somewhat dated in that examples he uses are "so 1990s" and some people have actually answered the challenge he poses to us, it is still a good, personally challenging read. If you read it to inspire you to do something, you will love it!
decent.

I got this book soon after ordering and it was a great price for something I had to read for freshman orientation.

I read this book a year or two ago, and was inspired and challenged (for the most part) by Bob Briner's call to be a "roaring lamb". Bob Briner writes well and has first-hand experience of the topics he deals with (i.e. how to work out one's faith in the market-place of the modern media industries), which gives the book a pragmatic authenticism.

I have to admit that I was disappointed by the final chapter that dealt with the subject of faith in a university/college setting. Here he almost seems to contradict himself by supporting the concept of Christian universities. As a Christian working in a secular university, I was looking forward to some guidelines or ideas on how to express my faith in that context, and was left disappointed. As I've reflected on this, I've come to appreciate Briner's perspective and opinions on this particular topic, but it left a lingering sense of disappointment, which is the only reason I didn't give this review five stars.

And that's the bottom-line really: this is an outstanding book for any Christian involved in the modern communication and media industries. I bought a copy recently as a gift for a young friend who is facing career decisions that may lead to some form of artistic or design career. I hope he is as challenged and inspired by Bob Briner's writing as I was.

Roaring Lambs is an inspirational guide to making a cultural difference as a Christian in our world today. I was moved and inspired as an art teacher. It contains questions in the back chapter that make for easy teaching. Armed and motivated for change, I recommend this book to all that teach the arts in every form.
This isn't helping...

Having just finished this book I'm extremely disappointed. I based my decision to buy it off of the many favorable reviews already written. The fact is the book could be done in a single sentence if you removed all of the redundancy and long outdated examples.

Here my shortened version of the book:

Christians need to pursue excellence in the arts and academia.

Now if that cranks your engine, then there's nearly 200 pages worth of the exact same thing in this book. I for one think it was a waste of time and money. Don't believe the reviews. Frankly I think you'd be better served to operate within the spirit of this book by reading something like Wild at Heart.
