My favorite Cheever stories are "Goodbye, My Brother" and "A Country Husband." The endings to his stories are often stunning in their lyricism. They often inspire me as a writer.

Didn’t Like It

First of all, this book is going to make you want to drink. Heavily. I'm typically not a short story fan anyway, so I might be biased, but I just didn't enjoy many of these stories. They all seem so similar in the characters contained in each story - everyone is dysfunctional, drunk or otherwise fairly depressing. Wah wah...
