This was a good, moody read. very evocative of the time period without hitting you over the head with the historical details in a scharmy way. Nice noir detective novel. Can't wait to read the next one to find out what happens.

This is the first of Kerr's Bernard Gunther series.Gunther is a private eye in Germany who brazenly wisecracks his way through suspenseful adventures. It surprised me that I was laughing my head off while reading a story filled with the threatening menace that was Nazi Germany.I recommend this book to anyone who like brilliant, smart-mouthed PIs who find themselves in supposedly futile situations.
