Very good book, I enjoyed how it takes many phrases or words literally. I did not enjoy the overall series though as I felt it was not really a defined series so much as a bunch of different stories (which some people like I suppose)

I read the first book in the Xanth series and was able to overlook the campiness and borderline sexism because it was a lot of fun and anything where people have powers always holds my attention. Unfortunately the second book is a lot weaker and those flaws become a lot more apparent when the...

A wonderful read - once you start you will want to finish it in one sitting and pick up the next in the series. I love to go back and re-read this series every so many years.

From my notes at the time:

Bink sets out to find the source of Magic, bringing with him Crombie, in the shape of a griffin, [C]hester, a centaur, and the magician Humphrey. Eventually he meets X(A/N)TH and discovers the source of Magic.

I think his first three were the best. After that, they got a bit formulaic. His world is inventive and engaging.

Fun and cheesy, typical Piers Anthony.

I owe Mr. Anthony a debt. It was while gobbling down my 10th Xanth book as an early teen it began to dawn on me that boring re-hashes of the same old silly tropes actually CAN convince someone completely hypnotized by the superficial appearances and shallow details of this literary ghetto that consuming this garbage is a complete fucking waste of time.

Thank you Piers Anthony, that was definitely a "Mission Accomplished" moment.

The Xanth novels are a quick, fun and funny read. Great starter books for young fantasy readers. There is a ton of them and you can pick up any of them and start. Very recommended
