While I normally enjoy Mary Stewart's writing, I found this story to be sub-par compared to her other stories. Her decided use of the third person narrative, distinctly detracted from the story which would have been much better suited to a first-person narrative in the gothic style. This is not one of my absolute favourites, but I still love it! Mary Stewart is a living treasure!
