This goes on my shopping list for sure. If you like historical fiction, you must try the Flashman series by George MacDonald Fraser, and the Falco series by Lindsey Davis. Flashman is a self-acknowledge cad, cheat and layabout. The harder he tries to stay out of harms way, the thicker into it he is thrust, and useual in a pivotal roll. He's at the rout of Kabul, the Charge of the Light Brigade, the Sepoy Mutiny, Custar's Last Stand and most every other major military event of the late 1800. Entertaining, informative and funny as h***. Lindey DAvid character Falco is an 'informer' or private investigator living in Rome during the time of the Emperor Octavian. Davis plots marvellous murder mysteris, brings imperial Rome to life and the subplot is plebian Falco's relationship with a senator's daughter. Every one of them a treat.
