I hated the characters in this book - in the end there is only one that is slightly worthy of good will. But... the way the author writes this is incredible. I have yet to see it done quite so well. He literally gives you a snap shot of a scene - man walks into a bar kills other man - then takes you someone elses view point and you learn the men are related - switch again and you see it from the man behind the man with the gun and what he knows of the scene and the bringing it to this point - The author is a master craftsman - but I do not remember any character as being remotely redeamable...”

Having read the Covenant trilogies, to read such a hardcore sci-fi series (and have it be really good) by a "fantasy" author was shocking. While it does contain many of the same themes of identity, alienation, suffering, and so on, The Gap series is pure sci-fi, and very well done. ***Not for the faint of heart.”
