I love the Stitch and Bitch books, not for their patterns but for the great descriptions and explanations. So when I decided to learn to crochet, this was the book I picked up. I'll never crochet a bikini (!) but I'll keep returning to this book for it's down to earth tips and excellent illustrations.

I love this book it's funny and explains the background/history of Crochet and how to actually crochet. I reccommend it to all of my students and anyone else who's thinking about picking up crochet. It's a great companion book to anyone taking a "how to crochet" class. there are some cute patterns in there also!
check for the erata though b/c some of the patterns have errors

I found this book when I was on the search to find a book to teach me some more intricate stitches than the simple (and boring!) single chain stitch I know...this book got great reviews about its instructional section. So I thought, "Great! Finally, a crochet book that can actually help me!" But alas. This was not the case. Though they do a nice job teaching you how to do the first row, they leave you hanging-and as all of us know who crochet, the first row usually is fairly different to perform than the second and following rows....so, this book didn't help really at all.
BUT. I still gave it a high score, because the patterns in here are SO. INCREDIBLY. CUTE. I am on the hunt for someone to teach me the stitches in person so I can dig in and start making all the foxy things this book offers.
So, for those of you who aren't as bumbling about reading a pattern as I am...you're in for a real treat here. But for those like me...find a crochet wizard to buddy up with who can help you through this book.

I've been crocheting since I was wee, and when this book came out I was thrilled. There are no shapeless sweaters, no funny hats, and definitely no doilies. The stitch instructions are clear and easy to follow, and thanks to this book I can now read stitch graphs.

I do have two issues: Firstly, I think Debbie Stoller tries a bit hard with her language sometimes. There's hip and there's trying to sound cool, and she does fall into category B on a few occasions. Luckily, this is all in the flavor text and doesn't take away from the techniques section of the book. Secondly, there are errors in the book. Crochet patterns can be tricky and errors do happen, so I definitely recommend anyone who buys this book to search through Google for the "Stitch N Bitch Happy Hooker Errata". It'll lead you to a .pdf that'll tell you where mistakes were made and how they should be corrected. Once you've got that, you're good to go.

After the clarity of the instruction in the knitting books, I eagerly awaited this book as I had been struggling to crochet for a while. The instructions ARE good, but I think maybe I'm just not meant to crochet..... Maybe my wrists don't work that way.....

I am currently attempting a blanket based on the granny squares of "color-bay blanket".

One day I hope I am able to make:
    Cold Shoulders
    Froufrou
    Fluffy bunny slippers
    Dorris Daymat
