“The characters in this book seem so real, I can almost see them doing what they're described as doing before I read the description in the book. It's the only book I can remember feeling that about. Exciting, absorbing, thought-provoking in its conclusion.”

Going through it word by word, I was kind of shocked at the blatant sexism of the genre and era it was written in. Sam Spade is quite the strong character, but I would bet money that he would come in for more criticism if this novel had been written in (and set in) the 1990s or 2000s.”

The "Maltese Falcon” is wrap around an object that is worth kill over. This book is great for any person who loves to read detective tales. Dashiell Hammet has his brilliant detective called Sam Spade on a distinct case of all these abnormal murders happening. This novel is packed with the most unexpected lies, betrayal, cheating, murders, and all wrap in is Sam Spade. Sam Spade the hard-boiled detective who has all the charms you could imagine. Sam Spade is someone who you would never want to dare cross. I think this is a brilliant novel, good for its content, but in the middle of the book, the author kind of gives away the whole entire mystery. Dashiell Hammet did a good job at hiding clues in complex text and also keeps you guessing about some items and building suspense up until the very end . I personally would have found the book book far more appealing if there were fewer clues until the end. All in all, I liked this book and its story though it had potential to be far greater then what it was published as.”

Finally picked it up at my librarian's urging and was captivated. I enjoyed the style, the story and the characters. It's now one of my favorites. Give it a try, even if you think it's not for you. :)”
