As wonderful as the John Huston film version is, the book is that much better. Sheer, hard-boiled rapture.

Didn’t Like It

I'm finding it difficult to understand why this book was so famous. I didn't find much - anything, actually - to like about it. It is a very standard, formulaic detective novel with no surprises or baffling clues for the reader to puzzle out. It's mostly just a whole lot of macho posturing. Yuk.

None of the characters were likeable, the main character Sam Spade least of all. He's a womanizer who doesn't like women, the kind of guy who thinks that liking women means sleeping with...

    This book was very exciting and nice. It had the main character named Samuel Spade who was a very mysterious man. He gets hired from a mysterious woman name Wonderly oh so he thinks. He starts too search for an item that is a maltese falcon as well find out who murdered his partner as well as some other people.
