In terms of plot, I seem to remember this as being particular strong amongst the Marlowe novels.

Love the hard-boiled dectective genre, and Chandler is the master. Really captures the time and place vividly--1940's Los Angeles.

One of the classics in this series, with film accompaniment. Marlowe finds himself caught searching for two missing wives, and yes, trouble follows.

This book was pretty good. I wasn't into this book as I was into "The Big Sleep." Still it was pretty good. Good writing, good characterization; but it lacked the pecularity that Chandler can give many of his characters. The case itself I didn't find too compelling, but still good, nonetheless.
