A time-honored text on the art of writing fiction. Anyone (whether young or not) who flails about trying to write should keep this book nearby for reference. More erudite than the glib pretenders that crowd the book shelves at the local mega bookstore. You'll learn more from Gardner. His own prose serves as example.
