This book is - to my knowledge - unique in that it whilst the First World War plays a large role in the story, it is the relationships between the characters which take centre stage. I found the characters incredibly well written, and there were some really beautiful bits of dialogue (naturally I don't have any to hand at the moment!). I really enjoyed this book, and whilst it is a little slow in places and rather lengthy, I would most definitely recommend it.
