“This book is one of those that is, I think a "must read" for whenever I want to wake myself up out of my preconceptions and remember that every object was originally alien to me.”

Yes | No“Ballard is the greatest living British novelist, but most of his work can be read in a conventional, linear way. Not this book, however - The Atrocity Exhibition is the most extreme example of avant-garde experimentation ever published in the U.K. Ballard himself advises the reader not to attempt a straightforward, front-to-back reading, but rather open the book anywhere and let your reading 'ripple' outwards. The Atrocity Exhibition is Ballard, and the late twentieth century, condensed - here you find the pornography of technology, the cold voyeurism of celebrity, the occult force of architecture, the poetry of surgical procedure. ”
