Didn’t Like It“Way too old. The language was stuffy English, and rather prissy. I did actually finish it, but if I hadn't been on a 3 hour flight at the time, I probably wouldn't have.” see full review » see other reviews » |
“This is one of my favorite books of all times. The writing is so descriptive, I felt like I was there. I had to keep reading to see what happened next. Nicola has been lucky enough to get a job working in Greece. She plans a short holiday and is unwittingly drawn into helping a fellow traveler whose brother has been kidnapped. As the mystery unfolds, she discovers that nothing is as it seems. Adventure, mystery, suspense, and romance! Great read!”

I wish I would have known about Mary Stewart when I was younger. Her stories are fun little mystery/suspense stories with a little love story on the side and are very clean. I would have loved them.”

The best part of this one has to be Nicola, she was no twit who decided to get involved in a dangerous affair that was none of her business out of curiosity, she had very believable motives for getting involved and she was not stupid about trying to gain information from potentionally dangerous people. My only real complaint about the book was that we didn't get to find out more about the villian(s), who seemed like they would've been very interesting characters.

At a soon to be opened hotel, she wanders off and finds a fellow countryman wounded. She rescues him and becomes involved in his adventure. Post WWII and Cold War Europe in the early 1960s.”

I found it in the basement of my aunt's basement when I was 12 and I fell in love with the author's style. It is a very nicely written romantic mystery (no sex!) and I still love it. It was made into a tacky movie with Haley Mills - and I love that too!”
