Some books have the subtlety of a drunken troll welding a sledgehammer, and this is one of those books. Sure, the themes are heavy-handed, the allusions are m0re transparent than a window in a glass cleaner commercial, and the message is broadcast louder than an Amber Alert, but this is one...

This is the most disappointed I've been with a Discworld book. The whole thing was slow and boring until about the last 40 pages or so. I forced myself to get to the end. The only redeeming factors were the dogs and Death's all-too-brief scenes. Very scattered. Pratchett's great language saved...

Some books have the subtlety of a drunken troll welding a sledgehammer, and this is one of those books. Sure, the themes are heavy-handed, the allusions are m0re transparent than a window in a glass cleaner commercial, and the message is broadcast louder than an Amber Alert, but this is one rollicking ride into the more mystical corners of Discworld. Bonus round: while reading, for each movie reference you can name correctly, take a shot!

This grew on me as I read it especially the characters of CMOT Dibbler and Gaspode, but, and not for the first with Prachett, the finale rather confused me. But very funny none-the-less.

This is the most disappointed I've been with a Discworld book. The whole thing was slow and boring until about the last 40 pages or so. I forced myself to get to the end. The only redeeming factors were the dogs and Death's all-too-brief scenes. Very scattered. Pratchett's great language saved this from getting one star. If you're reading Discworld books, I'd suggest skipping this one.

Moving pictures is a very funny book where alchemists "discover" the art of film making opening a whole new source of entertainment in Discworld. Victor Tugelbend goes to Holy Wood as if something is drawing him there. From then on he discovers the world of falseness, whether it's making one camel seeming like a thousand camels just to save money to fake scenery, he discovers it all. That is, until the world is at risk, but movie making always comes first since it is your career at stake.

This one is about the development of a disc world version of Hollywood. Very entertaining! The perfect beach book or plane book or I'm feeling down and need a pick me up book!

As the title suggests, Moving Pictures is Pratchett's take on Hollywood. In a manner similar to his approach to Men at Arms, The Truth, and Going Postal, Pratchett takes the development of the motion picture industry and through the literary equivalent of time-lapse photography compresses it so that the reader experiences in a brief time span that which occurred over decades on our slower-moving planet. The result is hilariously funny and made me shake my head and murmur, how did we let this nonsense happen.

Hollywood Discworld style! Who could resist the combination of Discworld characters and the movies? Laugh out loud parody.
