The Time Traveler's Wife

The Time Traveller's Wife

by Audrey Niffenegger

A dazzling novel in the most untraditional fashion, this is the remarkable story of Henry DeTamble, a dashing, adventuresome librarian who travels involuntarily through time, and Clare Abshire, an artist whose life takes a natural sequential course. Henry and Clare's passionate love affair endures across a sea of time and captures the two lovers in an impossibly romantic trap, and it is... (read more)

After reading the reviews I picked this book up after Christmas and finished it in 3 days. A great book that you won't want to put down. While reading it on the train, I often had people ask me how I liked it and remark that they loved it themselves. I highly recommend!!

Original, well written, moving, characters who draw you in, what more can you ask from a novel? I have no idea how the author kept it all straight. I read this ages ago and its one of those books that you think about again and again. Definitely recommended reading.

One of the best novels ever written. Captivating, original, truly wonderful. The only bad part of the whole novel was that it ended.

A FUN READ! DEFINITELY! I loved this book with a passion. For sure it is currently my favorite book. The only downside was that for younger readers it might not be appropriate. It is a wonderful book and a must read. I highly recommend it. The book, which stars Henry the time traveler and his normal wife Claire, is written in such a way that almost forces you to keep reading. The fact that it has different points of view from both Henry and Claire shows their deep and genuine qualities and their reactions to realistic events in life that affect the everyday person (besides the whole time traveling aspect). This book is also the perfect blend of time travel (obviously! But for those who hate science fiction, it's not very intense) and romance between two people that stay together against the odds. I strongly believe that this book should be read the moment your hands touch the cover. A MUST READ!!!!!
waiting and longing, absence and presence

A thoroughly riveting read. The main character has a 'condition' of being propelled, mostly against his will, through time and space. The reader is jerked around also, from one perspective to another with explanations coming eventually as the pieces of the puzzle slowly get put together. I personally found Clare's (the time traveller's wife) story far more ingrossing than Henry's. Hers is a story of waiting, of longing and dealing with and imagining absence and presence. The discussion of punk music, however brief, was an excellent theoretical background to Henry's character and philosophy. While I had a marvellous time reading this book and getting into the characters and scenario, I felt a little let down at the end. I found it hard to put my finger on exactly why that was, as I found the story itself satisfying enough. I think, upon reflection, that the first few chapters promised some fairly interesting philosophical insights to the human condition that in the end, I felt, were not fully developed. Having said that, I will still give the book my nod of approval (as if anyone cares about that!) and wish you a good read.
