“1. Everything appears to be going wrong for the little critter in Mercer Mayer's "I Was So Mad". This title is a well-known classic as it depicts the frustrations little critter faced over the course of a day.
2. I Was So Mad is a great resource for teaching children who exhibit autism spectrum tendencies as it provides a model of what "mad" looks like, and what types of instances lead to such anger.
3. This book reminds me of "Alexander and the No Good, Very, Bad, Day."

3. Summary: Little Critter has a rough day in this colorful floppy book. He seems to pick activities all day that only get him into trouble. He is so mad for many reasons: His mom said he can’t keep frogs in the bathtub, his dad says he can’t play with his little sisters dollhouse, his grandma says he can’t play hide and seek in the clean sheets, his grandpa says he can’t decorate the house. All these scolding’s get him in a bad mood and he doesn’t want to do anything his parents suggest like play in the sandbox or play on the slide because he is just too mad. It may sound upsetting but the pictures are quite comical and children can definitely relate. It ends sweetly and all is resolved but the “so mad” journey with Little Critter really helps you understand kids and kids will enjoy seeing how he deals with these common kid troubles.
4. Uses in the classroom:
• Ask class if they ever got mad over things Little Critter has and what makes them mad or angry. Record key words used on board. Then ask them what they do to get out of a bad mood and back into a good mood. Record those key emotion words as well. Explain that if we feel like the upset words we can always get back to the happy words by doing something about it. Choose to be happy and know that we all have mad moments in life.
• Go through all of Little Critters activities and ask class why they think his family was upset with him for his actions.
• Create our own “I Was So Mad” story. Each child writes one sentence about why they were so mad and write it down in big letters. Each student will stand up, hold up and say their sentence one at a time (maybe record on video or audio) and come up with a happy ending as a class.

“This book is great to help children learn to read. The easy repetition makes it easy to catch on to. Along with that, it shows children that you don't always get what you want and that you must follow the rules.”

All day long he wants to do certain things and he is not aloud to do any of it, until the end of the story when he is not so mad when he's allowed to play outside. This is another good story to use in early childhood education because it teaches a good life lesson to kids.”

It is cute little book for children to read as it conveys to children that it is so much fun to be a kid.”
