Another fine installment in the Dave Robicheaux series. Much better than the film adaptation. Even though I saw the film first. Knowing much of the plot & what happens...it was still a great read. Definately my favorite author at this point.

classic James Lee Burk. Can't wait to see the movie with Tommy Lee Jones and Mary Steenbergen! Loved it!

In my humble opinion, the best of an amazing, lyrical writer. All his books are good to great. I just think this has been his best so far.

i love every book by Burke that is a robicheaux novel. His others, where the central character is someone else, are not as good, but the Dave Robicheaux series is just my favorite detective series of all time

An okay crime novel, enhanced by the presence of some Confedarate Soldier ghosts. Remarkably like "Pegasus Descending' - or is it the other way around?

If you are unfamiliar with this author, this book would be an interesting introduction to the Dave Robicheaux novels by Burke. Burke writes with all five senses in mind. The descriptions of the Southern Louisiana will make you thirst for a sweet tea. The plot revolves around a possible serial murderer of young girls. It also involves the mafia infiltrating his locale through a Hollywood movie making event. The two may be connected. When Dave Robicheaux begins to see Confederate soldiers, and has conversations with them, you wonder, was it Dave Robicheaux' car accident, was it alcohol, or has Mr. Burke opted for a science fantasy turn of events. (No, it is not the latter!) This was an extremely well done novel, not his best of the Dave Robicheaux novels, but still very good. If you haven't read other of James Lee Burke's Dave Robicheaux novels, anytime is a good time to start. If you enjoy Southern Detective/Police mysteries, these will not dissapoint you.

James Lee Burke's style never fails to captivate me. I find his evocation of place remarkably atmospheric. If you've never experienced Louisiana, you'll do so in Burke's pages. His prose stuns at times, his dialog, including some Cajun dialect, consistently rings true. Even his references to local food (po' boys and dirty rice) are interesting. His major characters Dave and Cletus live by codes that often do not conform to societal norms. They are fiercely loyal as friends. I seek out Burke's novels. It's sometimes the case that I find that his writing is far superior to the story he tells. "In the Electric Mist.. .." is one of his best, and one of my favorites.

This is the one that got me hooked on audio when we were on a road trip. I have read all of his books and love each one of them because Dave (main character) is so flawed. And tries so hard.

This is one of JLB's best & it's now a movie to be released in March in Europe & perhaps same in US. Quirky and compelling!
