He started a life of crime very early, went to jail for armed robbery. While in jail he studied and became determined to make good. He studied journalism. This is the story of the struggles, temptation, and difficulties that he went through in his personal life, his work life. He eventually made it to the top and worked for the Wastington Post....
It is worth reading to understand the plight of the black male in society.....”

It is extremely well written in terms of readability. The author does use sophistocated vocabulary at times, but there is something else that sets it apart from Ralph Ellison's novel. Nathan McCall keeps you wanting to read on because the story is very interesting. On the other hand, when I read Ralph Ellison's novel it feels as though it is excessively dragged out and as though I am being forced to read it. He has unusually long sentences that I could do without. The book is written in the first person point of view, and I believe that has a lot to do with the readability. ”
